Special Sale of Oriental Brush Paintings by Kate Staber

Kate Staber, 1928-2019

Sea Grape Gallery Artist Emeritus

It is with great sorrow that we announce the recent passing of Kate Staber.  Kate  was a Sea Grape member artist from 1994 to 2016.  Her medium was Oriental Brush Painting, and she studied with master artists in both China and the US.  While at Sea Grape, Kate was especially involved in our scholarship program.   Her family generously donated a selection of her paintings for the express purpose of establishing a scholarship in her name.  The Gallery agreed to offer the paintings for sale with the net proceeds to be designated for the scholarship fund. The Visual Arts Center in Punta Gorda collaborated with the Gallery to display Kate’s paintings at a silent auction during March.   Many thanks to all who bid on the paintings or bought them outright.  The auction was a huge success and all the framed paintings were sold, netting a generous amount to be distributed as scholarships.  The winner of the 2019 Kate Staber Scholarship  is Lorena Campes, a graduating Charlotte High School senior who plans to continue her art studies at NYU.  Although the framed paintings have all been sold,  there are still a few unframed giclee prints available at the Gallery at deeply discounted prices.   If you are interested in Kate’s paintings and didn’t get a chance to participate in the auction, this is great opportunity to own a reproduction of one of her lovely pieces.
