Kaitlyn Carey’s Biography

“Hello! I am Kaitlyn Carey.

I am eighteen years old, and am a graduating senior of the class 2022 at Port Charlotte High School. The arts have been an interest of mine my whole life. I have experimented in many different art mediums through the years, and I have found photography and filmmaking to be my favorites.

I have created over twenty short films and music videos, starting at the age of fourteen, for my Youtube channel. My short film “Red Balloon” was the Local Spotlight feature at the 2021 Punta Gorda Film Festival. I have won numerous scholarships and awards over the years for my artwork. I am a winner of the 2022 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. I was the first student in PCHS history to have been awarded three Scholastic Regional Gold Key Awards for each of three photography and digital artwork I entered. The Gold Key is the top 5% of all submissions and is the highest honor for the Regional Awards. This led my artwork to be judged by New York Artists for the National Awards. I then won the National Silver Medal for my digital art piece titled “Moon”, making me in the top 1% of all of the 260,000 submissions from students across the country.

This fall I will be attending Ringling College of Art and Design to major in film. In my artwork I express my emotions through being experimental, imaginative, and risk taking.”
