February Guest Artist Potter Harriet Hazlett
Harriet Hazlett moved to Punta Gorda in 1957 with her family. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Ringling School of Art & Design, and then moved to New Orleans, where she created and sold ceramic jewelry In the French Quarter for many years. She returned to Punta Gorda in 1994, and.became active with the Visual Arts Center, exploring several different artistic avenues including plein air painting, Florida landscapes, and portraiture. She also taught children’s art classes at the VAC, and continues to teach art privately in her home. Harriet has also had a renewed interest in large scale pottery, and loves throwing and decorating vessels, vases, platters, mugs, and bowls. She is known for carving natural or abstract designs, especially flowers, on her pieces, She also paints on her designs in the bisque stage. As a prolific life long artist, Harriet is pleased to be exhibiting her stoneware pottery at Sea Grape Gallery as a Guest Artist during the month of February.
